This position performs a variety of carpentry and locksmith tasks. Work may include and is not limited to Flooring, Ceiling, and Walls Systems, Furniture repair, and Painting & refinishing. This position also includes skilled locksmith work and control of the hospitals key control system. Often this position will assist other facility trades in completing various projects.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Safety

  • Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster procedures, as outlined in the fire safety policy, knows personal role in the event of a fire while on duty.
  • Provides a safe environment; demonstrates alertness to areas needing attention in avoiding unsafe conditions such as but not limited to wet flooring, blocked egress areas etc.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner on a daily basis.
  • Always wears all personal protective equipment when required.
  • Carries out duties in a safe professional manner, with focus on customer service as a high priority. Exceeds: No substantiated complaints from patients, physicians, staff & visitors.
  • Ability to use the Life Safety Drawings to identify smoke and fire barrier construction throughout the facility.
  • Anticipates potential and environmental safety hazards and takes appropriate actions.
  • Uses proper lifting techniques when appropriate.
  • Assures proper machine guards are in place.
  • Understands and able to use the departments lock out tag out system for equipment under repair.

Emergency Response

  • Availability for on call duty when / as required.
  • Works additional hours if required, including occasional shift changes due to work assignments. Exceeds: on occasion voluntarily offers to change primary work schedule to accommodate work assigned.
  • Participates in availability for unscheduled Emergencies when they occur.
  • Participates in Facilities On - Call Weekly Program (candidates hired after 2020)

Systems & Equipment Maintenance

  • Designs, builds, and repairs cabinetry, furniture and other items such as shelves and counters. Exceeds: Installs plastic laminate when constructing shelving and cabinetry in house.
  • Assists with the design and building of renovation projects.
  • Estimates and recommends the quality, cost effectiveness and best use of materials ordered.
  • Installs and repairs walls and doors. Exceeds: Installs vinyl wallcoverings such as acrovyn and corner guard products.
  • Installs and repairs floors including stair treads and base cove.
  • Builds and repairs new and damaged walls.
  • Hangs Drywall and is able to work with metal studs. Exceeds: Able to tape and finish drywall ready for painting.
  • Repairs windows and frames, replaces screens, hang pictures and mirrors, and other safety equipment as necessary.
  • Installs and repair Acoustical and Solid surface ceiling systems.
  • Performs all preventive maintenance and repairs on carpenter ship equipment.
  • Performs painting and staining when applicable.
  • Certified Locksmith training used to install, repair, and replace all type of locks. Exceeds: Coordinates new keying systems for building additions and satellite campuses.
  • Manages Key Control Database of issued staff keys. Exceeds: Keeps electronic inventory of records.
  • Manages Work Orders and Contractor repairs for electronic door operators.
  • Coordinates and helps electricians and contractors install and repair card swiping hardware.
  • Assists with the Life Safety Drawing updates and smoke barrier wall inspections.
  • Installs and provides preventive maintenance on a variety of door hardware applications including locksets, closers, and electronic openers.

Facilities Support

  • Maintains inventory of stock needed for frequent repairs in facilities.
  • Assists other members of department with performing required duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Helps to move furniture and other designated pieces of equipment.

Information Management

  • Accurately uses the hospital information system to enter and retrieve maintenance related data.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the work order system.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Education - High School Diploma / GED
  • Experience - The candidate should have a minimum of three years' experience as a carpenter's helper or Journeyman level and possess a good working knowledge of the trade terminology and tools. This position requires the ability to perform precision work with power tools and to work with staining and gluing products.
  • Licensure - NYS Driver's License


Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requirements also include climbing, bending, and the ability to get into tight spaces while working off a ladder. Work will include interior and exterior weather conditions.

  • Onsite - Cayuga Medical Center
  • Days, Various - Scheduled


Pay Range Disclosure:

  • $29 to $37 per hour
