Position Summary

The Ghanbarpour Laboratory, located within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washington University in St. Louis, School of Medicine, invites applications for a skilled laboratory technician position. Our new lab focuses on deciphering the molecular mechanisms of ATP-dependent AAA+ proteases using cutting-edge cryo-EM structural biology and biochemical methods.


In this role, you will be tasked with the expression and purification of both soluble and membrane-bound proteins, developing new constructs through molecular cloning, and executing a variety of biochemical assays. You will acquire hands-on experience in AAA+ protease assays, as well as in the preparation and analysis of samples for cryo-EM and structural determination. In this position you work directly with the principal investigator and a postdoctoral fellow.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.

  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.

  • Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.

  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.

  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.

  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. 

  • The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
