Job Description

General Statement of Job

The Bookstore Clerk, under general supervision, supports the operations of the Bookstore by performing the following duties in a courteous and effective manner.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly, customer service.

Produces patron IDs using video imaging equipment and software.

Maintains cardholder records and accounts.

Distributes vehicle parking passes and maintains parking pass database.

As directed maintains card system door access grid in accordance with University security policy.

Utilizes Bookstore software to process customer orders.

Handles monetary transactions including cash, checks, and credit cards. Counts cash drawer and is accountable for its contents. Cashier must be required to know procedures for opening and closing store.

Promptly answer phone calls and voice mails with courtesy, addressing callers’ needs.

Will perform duties such as cleaning, stocking, pricing, folding and organizing merchandise.

Must have or develop an understanding of bookstore software system to solve problems and answer questions relating to student and department inquires.

Assists students, faculty, and other customers to locate books, supplies, related materials and answer questions regarding Inclusive Access.

Resolves or researches customer account questions via bookstore and/or administrative software systems.

Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity.

Assist internal and external customers with questions or concerns about course materials and general merchandise.

Demonstrates excellent customer service that reflects the importance of our students, faculty and staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

High School diploma (or GED) and computer skills required.

Experience in a customer service function required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively use a variety of office machines (computer ; credit/debit card machines; video imaging machines; cash register; fax; copiers; etc.)
