The laboratory of Dr. Kartik Chandran () at Einstein seeks a highly motivated individual for a Postdoctoral Fellow position.
We study how enveloped emerging viruses infect and commandeer their host cells. Our work is interdisciplinary in nature, involving forward and reverse viral genetics, host genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, and immunology. Our research spans the gamut from basic to highly translational with strong biotech collaborations. We leverage substantial technical resources available both within the laboratory and through an extensive array of research cores at Einstein. Our state-of-the-art biosafety level 3 laboratory will go online in 2025 and will afford advanced studies in the mechanisms of infection and pathogenesis by emerging viruses.
Laboratory members include six research faculty, two postdoctoral fellows, eight graduate students, and two research technicians. Chandran Lab alumni have started their own academic labs, been recruited to exciting biotech positions, and have gone on to prestigious graduate programs.
The successful candidate will have broad leeway in designing a project of their choice in consultation with Dr. Chandran. Topics of particular interest include the biology of poxviruses, flaviviruses, and bunyaviruses; innovative high-throughput genetic approaches to uncover structure-function relationships in viral and host sequences; new strategies to identify and investigate host factors required for viral infection and pathogenesis; human antibody discovery and development; and the engineering and deployment of non-canonical antibody architectures and multispecific antibodies as antimicrobial therapeutics. New ideas are always welcome!
We especially seek team players who can work closely with others to manage collaborative projects both within the lab and with our academic and biotech partners. This position is ideal for an experienced professional who can provide leadership and creative input as a senior member of the group.
