The CRC-Technician (underfill: CRC-Assistant) will be working on a clinical research study within the Department of Anesthesiology that is part of the Neuroscience Division.  The project's goals are to evaluate and improve cognitive recovery in older patients in the perioperative setting. 

This position may be underfilled at the CRC-Assistant title based on the selected candidates qualifications.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, screening, consenting, and enrolling research participants from multiple sites. The Clinical Research Coordinator will provide support to participants around the multiple technological components of this study, including installing the study smartphone application(s), electronic consenting, and setup of wearable devices. The Clinical Research Coordinator will support consenting, enrollment, and follow-up tasks as needed and requested by participants and the study team.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with recruitment and consent of eligible surgical patients for EEG-related clinical trials in various preoperative clinic locations.
  • Place EEG cap on patients prior to surgery.
  • Oversee and manage EEG data acquisition with laptop software before, during, and after surgery.
  • Manage EEG study databases, including cleaning, organizing, and labeling continuous and epoched data per study protocol.
  • Facilitate data transfer to other software programs (e.g., MATLAB, Chronux) for additional analysis.
  • Complete cognitive function tests (MoCA and delirium screenings) on older surgical patients in the perioperative setting.
  • Receive training on performing delirium screening for patients.
  • Conduct 30-day follow-up cognitive function assessments over the telephone.

Supervision Received: This position receives direct supervision and reports directly to a Clinical Research Project Manager.

CRC Technician:

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary 
    or An advanced degree in a health-related areas such as: Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD. or Minimum 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related patient care, related community health and wellness, related clinical information, and research.  
  • Must be able to work early mornings, early evenings as dictated by the surgery schedule, and weekends on a regular, weekly basis.

CRC Assistant:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary or Minimum 1 years of human subjects experience (clinical, lab, or health regulations) such as related patient care, related community health and wellness, related clinical information and research.
  • Must be able to work early mornings, early evenings as dictated by the surgery schedule, and weekends on a regular, weekly basis.

CRC Technician:

  • Bachelors degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable. An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable. 

CRC Assistant:

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable. An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable. 

Both: 

  • Prior EEG research experience involving human participants
  • Prior experience with EEG software acquisition and database programs
  • Prior experience with data platforms (ie, RedCap) 

This position in an on-site position (University Hospital/UH-South) and does not qualify for a remote or hybrid work schedule. Must be able to work early mornings, early evenings as dictated by the surgery schedule, and weekends on a regular, weekly basis.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

This position is term-limited through April 2027 with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
