AVP, Chief Administrative Officer, Department of Medicine

Join the largest healthcare system in Central and Western Massachusetts as their new AVP, Chief Administrative Officer, Department of Medicine! The Position - The AVP, Chief Administrative Officer oversees the planning and execution of all administrative operations and strategic initiatives for the Department of Medicine within the UMass Memorial Healthcare system.
- This position will report to the Chair, Department of Medicine, UMass Chan and UMMH with dotted line to SVP, Chief Operating Officer, UMass Memorial Medical Group. and will oversee five direct reports.
- The AVP, Chief Administrative Officer will cultivate strong relationships with each division and department staff to gain a deep understanding of their key priorities, including departmental financials. Additionally, this role will be responsible for enhancing the funds flow process.
- The ideal candidate will be an innovative and strategic leader with a remarkable ability to multitask and adapt to evolving priorities. This leader must excel at building and maintaining relationships, fostering a supportive environment for staff, and guiding divisions toward a successful future.
- The successful candidate will be an experienced financial administrator with a background in financial management of academic Departments.
- This individual will be a leader who demonstrates the collaborative ability to work well with multiple partners and stakeholders, strong interpersonal and communication skills that complement a passion for excellence and achievement.
Requirements - Master’s degree in Business, Hospital Administration or a related area required.
- A minimum of seven years of relevant experience, including at least five years in an administrative role within a large department, is required.
- Prior experience in a large Academic Medical Center is highly preferred.

The Organization - UMass Memorial Health is the largest health care system in Central and Western Massachusetts and the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. As a not-for-profit, integrated health care system, UMass Memorial Health provides comprehensive care across all levels, from primary to quaternary services.
- The system includes three hospitals—UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMC), HealthAlliance-Clinton, and Marlborough Hospital—along with an extensive ambulatory network of clinics, medical offices, and health centers throughout Central Massachusetts. UMMC, the system’s flagship academic medical center, operates across three campuses in Worcester and is the third-largest hospital in the Commonwealth, with 802 licensed beds, over 130,000 annual emergency department visits, and more than 1.2 million outpatient visits.

- The Department of Medicine has 17 Divisions and includes more than 370 active faculty members. The Department's world-class faculty are developing innovative approaches for the prevention and treatment of disease through internationally recognized and world-class research programs, including a new Program in Digital Medicine and Division of Innate Immunity. The Department of Medicine secured over $83 million in funding in 2023, ranking in the top 50 in NIH funding among departments of medicine in 2023.
